Schedule for application and Screening

1. Application Period

Application Period Primary recruitment – May 25, 2015 (finished)
Secondary recruitment – November 16, 2015
(for those who take an examination of the secondary recruitment for a Graduate School at OPU/OCU)
*On an ad-hoc basis until the end of January, 2016

2. Applicant Qualification

1-1) Those who commit to enrolling in one of programs listed as following (A)-(O):

(A) Master’s program in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka Prefecture University;

(B) Master’s program in the Department of Aerospace and Marine System Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka Prefecture University;

(C) Master’s program in the Department of Electronics Mathematics and Physics, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka Prefecture University;

(D) Master’s program in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Science, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka Prefecture University;

(E) Master’s program in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka Prefecture University;

(F) Master’s program in the Department of Quantum and Radiation Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka Prefecture University;

(G) Master’s program in the Department of Applied Life Science, Graduate School of Life and Environmental Science, Osaka Prefecture University;

(H) Master’s program in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Technology, Graduate School of Life and Environmental Science, Osaka Prefecture University;

(I) Master’s program in the Department of Mathematics and Information Science, Graduate School of Science, Osaka Prefecture University;

(J) Master’s program in the Department of Physical Science, Graduate School of Science, Osaka Prefecture University;

(K) Master’s program in the Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science, Osaka Prefecture University;

(L) Master’s program in the Department of Biological Science, Graduate School of Science, Osaka Prefecture University;

(M) Master’s program in the Department of Mechanical and Physical Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka City University;

(N) Master’s program in the Department of Physical Electronics and Informatics, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka City University;

(O) Master’s program in the Department of Applied Chemistry and Bioengineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka City University;

1-2) Those who do not have Japanese nationality and completed a 16-year educational program at a foreign institution or is expected to complete it by March 31, 2016. (The same qualification as required for foreign applicants to apply to one of the Master’s programs as listed above)

1-3) Those who commit to completing the SiMS five-year graduate course, as well as completing a five year doctoral-degree course at OPU/OCU.

4. Application Submission: Application documents are to be sent by postal mail or e-mail.

3 Academic transcript The number of credits earned in the undergraduate school by the time of application, assessment and assessment criteria should be entered.

*It is required to specify a designated faculty professor advisor who will take care of
the applicant after he/she is admitted to a graduate school.

5. Screening Test:
1) Date & Venue: After receiving the application, the date and venue for the screening test would be individually arranged and the applicant then notified. Oral and interview tests could be arranged via remote video conference system such as a Skype connection. As an option, it is possible to have a test in Japan if an applicant has a chance to come to Japan.
(This screening test should be finished by the submission of application for the Graduate School.)

2) Test subjects: (a) an essay,   (b) an oral examination,   (c) an interview

3) Scoring system: 100 points for each of an essay, an oral examination, and an interview

6. Screening Method
Examination subjects
(a) Small essay (100 points for full marks)
Theme will be announced before the date of a screening test. The essay should be sent to us before the screening test.

(b) Oral examination (100 points for full marks)
The first five minutes will be spent on presentation of your graduate thesis (or your current research subject if you are enrolled in the graduate school). Then, questions will be asked to test your knowledge.

(c) Interview (100 points for full marks)
Taking into account the Reason for Application already submitted and the small essay, questions will be asked concerning the Admission Policy of the SiMS Degree Program.

7. Announcement of test results: The results will be notified to those who successfully pass the test. The enrollment to the SiMS program will be officially effective, after the announcement of the applicant’s admission to a graduate school.

8. Enrollment: Enrollment procedures will be made in March, 2016.

9. Start of SiMS Program: SiMS course will start on April 1, 2016.

10. Financial Aids: Those who are enrolled in the SiMS program are qualified to apply for financial aid which is provided to support their living expenses in Japan.
